Bryan Sheehan pulls strings for St Mary’s

St Mary’s (Kerry) 4-21 Corofin (Clare) 0-1: Inspired by Kerry senior star Bryan Sheehan, St Mary’s Cahersiveen, advanced to the Munster Intermediate Club Final, when they put outclassed Clare champions, Corofin, to the sword in this semi-final mismatch in Caherciveen.

Sheehan was content to be more provider than finisher for a quicksilver forward line, who shredded the Corofin defence and led 2-13 to 0-0 at the break.

St Mary’s manager Maurice Fitzgerald reckons the fright they go two weeks ago in Cashel, saw the team refocus, with Corofin suffering the backlash.

“Two weeks ago when we went up to Tipperary we weren’t as focussed as we probably should have been and were very lucky to come out of that game in Cashel with a win.

“We were focused from start to finish today which I was very pleased with. Corofin hit the crossbar after five minutes and I felt their heads dropped after that. If they had got that score it might have put a different complexion on the game.”

Fitzgerald doesn’t have a problem with the lads who are still with South Kerry and facing a SFC Final replay next Sunday “It’s a problem we’re delighted to have because of the experience our players that are involved with them (South Kerry) are gaining. I certainly don’t think it’s any hindrance to this group of players with the ability and hunger they have. They want to add as many trophies to the cabinet as possible.”
