NEMO Rangers had to put in a shift but their superiority over Legion was seldom seriously threatened as they advanced to a Munster Club SFC final against Clonmel Commercials on Sunday.
The Kerry champions played as if they had one eye on next Sunday’s Kerry SFC final replay against South Kerry, a suspicion strengthened by Legion manager Peter Keane, who admitted a county title was their priority.
One wonders whether they’d have got the better of Nemo at full tilt anyway. The Cork champions led 0-6 to 0-2 at the break, and by the 42nd minute had stretched that lead to seven points (0-11 to 0-4). They proceeded to slow down the engines at that stage, indulging in bouts of keepball, which frustrated a Legion side already experated by the amount of turnovers they were comitting.
Paul Kerrigan grew more influential as the game wore on as Nemo kept a tight rein on Legion damger man James O’Donoghue by dropping a sweeper, Colin O’Brien in front of him.
The Kerry attacker showed how dangerous he could be though with three second half points, which helped reduce the gap to five points with as many minutes remaining. However another Nemo point from sub Shane Martin kept them at arm’s length.
