Nemo Rangers 1-10
The city side trailed by 0-9 to 0-6 in the 46th minute when the impressive Conor Horgan got behind Haven defence and handpassed across goal, allowing Barry O’Driscoll to palm home at the back post.
Sub James Masters then put them ahead for the first time since the 24th minute and Kerrigan made it 1-8 to 0-9. The Haven, seeking their third title in four years, reused to wilt though and were back level again thanks to points from Stephen Hurley and Chris Hayes.
They wouldn’t score after Hayes’s 52nd-minute point, however, and another sub, Peter Morgan, played a big role in helping Masters to put Nemo in front again. As the time ran down, Steven O’Brien’s side kept possession well and then the ball was worked to captain Kerrigan, who was fouled and then converted the free himself to ensure victory.
It was an even first half, with the Haven leading 0-3 to 0-1 early on before Nemo scored three in a row with Ciarán Dalton hitting the post with a goal attempt too.
Kerrigan levelled at 0-5 each on 29 but Castlehaven’s direct running was yielding frees, with Brian Hurley kicking one of those to restore the lead. It was Hurley’s pass across goal just before half-time which resulted in an Aidan O’Reilly ‘own point’, leaving the Haven 0-7 to 0-5 in front at half-time, just as they had been in the drawn game.
It was 0-8 to 0-6 when Michael Hurley went for goal on 37, but Micheál Martin made an outstanding save and Brian Hurley’s follow-up was deflected out for a 45. From that, goalkeeper Paudie Hurley played a short ball to Mark Collins, who opened up the biggest lead of the game up until then. Nemo refused to give up, however.
