Fr O’Neill’s rally to force replay
A late surge by Fr O’Neill’s ensured the draw, with Billy Dunne snatching a goal on the 56th minute bringing them to within one, before Paudie McMahon fired over the equaliser two minutes later.
Mallow had a chance to take the win, but a shot on goal by top scorer Seán Hayes - who finished with 2-4 - was dispatched to safety thanks to Conor O’Driscoll in goal.
After what was a dismal first-half, soaked with wides by both teams, it was Mallow who led at the turnaround 1-4 to 0-4 thanks to a penalty by Hayes just before the break.
Things came to life in the second, with the sides level four times throughout, and with great displays by Cal Hegarty, Kevin O’Sullivan and Mark O’Keeffe, Fr O’Neill’s began to pick off their scores.
In fact they came back to lead by as many as three points having scored six unanswered points after the restart.
However, a second goal by Hayes put Mallow back in front again by one with quarter of an hour to go, but there on out it was tit-for-tat, and they must now do it all over again.
Best for Mallow on the night was Danial Sheehan, Sean Hayes and Alec Luttrell.
