John Maughan poised for U21 role with Mayo

John Maughan is poised for a return to the Mayo sideline having emerged as the frontrunner for the county’s vacant U21 manager’s position.

Maughan, nominated by Crossmolina to fill the U21 football post vacated by Niall Heffernan, has been absent from the inter-county scene since resigning as Roscommon boss in 2008.

The former Mayo senior manager will go before the four-man selection committee next week. Mike Solan and former Mayo footballer Anthony McGarry have also been nominated for the job.
