Anthony Cunningham: Too much made of spring stutters

Galway hurling manager Anthony Cunningham believes the criticism levelled at his team in the aftermath of their feeble league quarter-final exit to Waterford went “overboard”.

The Tribesmen fell to Derek McGrath’s outfit at Walsh Park on a scoreline of 0-20 to 0-12 in early April, managing a miserly five points from play over the 70 minutes.

Criticism flowed from all quarters the subsequent week, with Cunningham’s predecessor John McIntyre particularly scathing in his remarks.
