Dubs can’t afford to be complacent, warns former Erne boss Charlie Mulgrew

Complacency should be a major concern for Dublin on Sunday, warns former Fermanagh manager Charlie Mulgrew.

Dubs can’t afford to be complacent, warns former Erne boss Charlie Mulgrew

Former Donegal player Mulgrew was the last manager to guide the Erne County to Croke Park in the championship and believes Dublin could becaught out if they find the going too easy for them without showing that superiority on the scoreboard.

“No team in Ireland can stop Dublin when they get rolling but they have shown they can be a wee bit flawed in their mentality and they can becaught,” said Mulgrew, referring to last year’s All-Ireland semi-final defeatto Donegal.

“It’s complacency. I always say a seven-point lead at half-time can be a terrible lead because you really should be 14 points up as you’re finding things so simple and easy.

“Your body wants to offload the pressure so if you’re winning easy and getting through the tackles but you don’t have enough scores on the board it can be hard to keep it going. The other team is in the dressing room and they’re reorganising and wanting to at least win the second half.

“Dublin though are probably the best team ever. They’re definitely up there for that accolade.”

Mulgrew expects Pete McGrath will set up a shield to at least negate the attacking threat of Dublin. “Any team that’s had any success against Dublin have parked the bus. They hold up and hold up and absorb as much of their pressure as they can.

“If every man who plays gives the best they can then you’re not really losing because you’ve given everything and you can’t look back and talk about ifs and buts.

“It’s about what’s in your heart and in your tummy. We always used to say we’re planting the flag of Fermanagh on the 21-yard line in front of goals and no man gets that flag.

“It was our way of motivating the boys. Fermanagh will have to do something huge but there’s nothing impossible in football. They have tobelieve that they can do it first.”
