Brian Murphy returns as Cork make three changes for Waterford clash
Murphy, who retired after the 2013 championship, was persuaded to come back to the set-up by manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy and is named at left corner-back.
Aidan Ryan, who was full-back in the Allianz HL Division 1 final loss to the Déise at the same venue five weeks ago, loses out as Stephen McDonnell moves to full-back.
In the half-back line, Damien Cahalane comes in for Lorcán McLoughlin, who is ruled out through a shoulder injury.
Left half-back Cormac Murphy is selected for his championship debut.
Séamus Harnedy had been a worry with a hamstring problem but he has been passed fit to start at centre-forward.
That means Luke O’Farrell for Robert O’Shea is the only other change, with Conor Lehane moving from full-forward to number 10 to accommodate his Midleton clubmate.
In the curtain-raiser at Thurles, Cork face Waterford in the Munster intermediate championship with a 2pm throw-in and, with Cork having won the All-Ireland last year, manager Ronan Dwane has to assemble a brand-new panel.
Captain Kevin Kavanagh of Carrigaline, who is at right half-back, and left half-forward Michael Collins (Ballinhassig), were both U21s last year.
Collins’ clubmate Fintan O’Leary was previously a part of the senior panel.
Full-back Brendan Rogers of Slaughtneil is the only debutant on the Derry side to face Down in Celtic Park at 2pm. Niall Holly, who featured at full-back during the league, makes his first championship start, partnering Fergal Doherty at midfield.
