Borris were in contention until the 58th minute when Joe O’Connor pulled a low ball to the net, securing St. Peter’s first final appearance since 2004.
A well-drilled Borris side started brightly, with centre-forward Kevin McDonald impressing. But a quickfire 1-3 gave St. Peter’s an advantage they never lost. Matthew Joyce (free), John Lee Meyler and Conor Hearne hit points before Joe O’Connor found Meyler, who picked out Matthew Joyce to his right, and the full-forward soloed his way through before cleverly scooping the sliothar to the net.
There was no question of Borris dropping their heads. Indeed, they outscored their rivals 0-6 to 0-4 for the remainder of the second quarter with McDonald, who had an intriguing duel with highly-rated Aaron Maddock, landing all bar one of their points before the break.
Joe O’Connor, Billy Dunne (two frees and play) plus sub Rory O’Connor did more damage for Peter’s after the restart. The only Borris response was the first of Chris Nolan’s three points, and they still trailed 1-15 to 0-12 at the end of the third quarter. The productive O’Connor settled the issue before Matthew Joyce and Jack Pettitt closing out the scoring with points.
