The 2015 hosts struggled in the opening-half but with the wind at their backs after the break, they pulled clear.
David Reidy put the visitors ahead with a 4th minute free, but Derek McNicholas quickly levelled for DIT, who took the lead in the 6th minute when Jack Guiney pointed a free.
Reidy restored parity from another free in the 9th minute. His point attempt two minutes later rebounded off the upright with Paul Killeen responding quickest to crack the ball to the net from eight yards.
However, the visitors struggled for fluency and a defensive error at the end of the first quarter allowed Michael Lee to slip through and plant a shot beyond Aaron Murphy.
DIT used the breeze to their advantage and were rewarded with superb solo scores by Conor Sheehan and the impressive Guiney.
However, Killeen ensured Limerick enjoyed a narrow 1-6 to 1-5 interval lead as he scored his side’s first point from play in the 29th minute.
On the changeover, Limerick IT they built on their advantage with scores by Sean O’Brien, Reidy and Paul Flaherty .
Alan Dempsey struck a brace of points for the visitors and with Reidy adding his eighth free of the day late on, DIT’s misery was complete when Kieran Bergin was dismissed in injury time.
