Weather hits Dr McKenna Cup fixtures
Cavan v Monaghan, Derry v Queen’s, Donegal v Fermanagh and Tyrone v Antrim were all called off early yesterday due to heavy snow in the northern part of the country.
The section A clash between Down and Ulster University went ahead at Pairc Esler, as did the game at the Athletic Grounds between Armagh and St. Mary’s.
The semi-finals had initially been set for Sunday but they have been pushed back to Wednesday night.
However, with semi-final places still be decided in all three groups, the four postponed games have been rescheduled for Sunday, with a 2pm throw-in. Venues and times will be confirmed once the identity of the semi-finalists is known.
Prior to last night’s fixtures, 10 of the 12 teams could still qualify for the last four. The three group winners progress, along with the best runner-up from the three sections.
The final, which has been won by Tyrone for the past three seasons, goes ahead as originally scheduled on Saturday, Jan 24.
Revised schedule
Sunday (all games 2pm): Section A: Cavan v Monaghan; Section B: Derry v Queen’s University; Donegal v Fermanagh; Section C: Tyrone v Antrim
Wednesday January 21: Semi-finals
Saturday January 24: Final.
