O’Byrne grabs last gasp winner for UCD

UCD 2-08 Louth 0-12: A goal with the last touch of the game earned UCD the points in last night’s O’Byrne Cup tie at Haggardstown, and so keeps the students in with a chance of a place in the knockout stages.

Just when it seemed Louth wouldn’t have to pay the penalty for some terrible wastage, Ed O’Byrne got on the end of a Ryan Basquel centre to punch the ball to the net.

Hitting 17 wides — to UCD’s five — Louth were unable to assert their authority.
