Mac Niallais backs Gallagher for Donegal role

Odhrán Mac Niallais will be happy to play under any of the four candidates to succeed Jim McGuinness as Donegal manager — but his personal favourite is Rory Gallagher.

Mac Niallais backs Gallagher for Donegal role

The Fermanagh native, along with Paddy Carr, Cathal Corey and Anthony Harkin, is set to be interviewed this week for the position. Having played under him before, Mac Niallais knows just how good he is. “He’s a top man. His knowledge of the game is right up there, it’s unbelievable. I worked with him last year under Jim and the U21s, in 2011. He’s definitely capable of managing inter-county. He’s managed Kilcar, he’s done good work with them. I’d be happy enough to play for him. He’s spent three or four years under Jim, sure what more do you need to manage inter-county than get that experience of Jim McGuinness?”

Mac Niallais would love to see McGuinness return to the helm one day but feels the Glenties man is making big waves in Scotland and has the ability to take over Celtic in the future.
