Dillon drives Ballintubber

Mayo SFC Final: Two-time All Star Alan Dillon produced a man of the match performance as Ballintubber secured their third Mayo SFC title in five seasons at MacHale Park, Castlebar, yesterday.

Holders Castlebar Mitchels tried everything to pin Dillon down, but the All-Ireland club finalists were unable to fully recover from the concession of two early goals, and found the Ballintubber defence impregnable in the closing stages.

Ultimately those early, superbly-taken goals from the O’Connor brothers, Padraic and Cillian, made all the difference.

They undermined Castlebar’s best efforts of retaining their title, while 14 wides also spoiled some neat approach work.
