Midleton CBS are through to meet Charleville CBS in the Dean Ryan Cup (Munster Post-Primary U16½ Hurling) semi-final after their win over St Flannan’s at Charleville yesterday.
In a keenly fought game, Midleton led 1-5 to 1-4 at the break. Exchanges were close in the second half with Midleton goals from Liam Gosnell, Conor Keegan and Andrew Leahy. Flannan’s also had goals in the second half, from Conor Lynch and Darragh Duggan, but Midleton held out for a one-goal victory.
Meanwhile Thurles CBS came out on top in an enthralling encounter in Cahir, edging St Colman’s of Fermoy 1-20 to 2015 after extra-time. The win means Thurles CBS face Our Lady’s, Templemore in the semi-finals. Templemore may go in as favourites following their 29-point victory over Rice College, Ennis.
A highlight of the early exchanges was a point from play by Our Lady’s Templemore from all of 90 metres by their outstanding centre-back Brian McGrath, brother of Tipp star Noel.
