Cosgrove ace for Garrycastle

All-Ireland finalists in 2012, Garrycastle never looked in danger of being overturned, leading 1-7 to 0-3 at the break and always well in control on the resumption.

However, their opponents in the decider are not yet known as Mullingar rivals, St Loman’s and Shamrocks, drew 1-12 apiece in a pulsating second semi-final. John Heslin scored St Loman’s goal in the 18th minute to put the reigning champions seven points clear and they went on to lead 1-6 to 0-5 at half-time.

A great goal from Lorcan Smyth midway through a very exciting second half kept Mullingar Shamrocks in touch, but it still needed three points in injury-time to force a draw for Bernard Flynn’s challengers, the scores coming via Killian Daly, Seanie Daly and a great equalising score from Denis Corroon.

The replay has been fixed for Wednesday evening under lights in Kinnegad.

On the hurling front, Crookedwood were relegated to the intermediate ranks when they lost the senior play-off by 2-13 to 1-10 to Delvin on Saturday in Cusack Park. Four players — two from each side — picked up straight red cards in the dying moments of a hitherto-sporting contest.
