Holders ease into semi-finals

The four Westmeath SHC semi-finalists are now known.

Champions Castletown-Geoghegan finished top of the eight-team group, following their 1-18 to 1-15 win over St. Oliver Plunkett’s of Mullingar.

Raharney finished in second place following their 1-13 to 0-11 victory over Lough Lene Gaels, , with Brian Connaughton getting the Raharney goal.

Clonkill finished third after a comfortable 2-24 to 1-11 win over Castlepollard. Despite the defeat Castlepollard still qualify for the semis and a date with Castletown-Geoghegan while Raharney meet Clonkill.

Meanwhile, in the senior football championship, Mullingar Shamrocks caused a major surprise when they came from eight points down at half-time to defeat last year’s finalists Tyrrellspass by three points in a quarter-final replay. Tyrrellspass led by 1-9 to 0-4 at half time but sub Darragh Daly played a major role in Shamrocks’ three-point victory, 3-11 to 1-14, which sets them up for a semi-final clash with champions St. Loman’s from Mullingar.

In the senior football relegation match, Castledaly defeated Athlone 2-14 to 3-10.
