The majority of games between Kilkenny and Tipperary over the last five years have provided a flashpoint or more

These two usually produce sparks...

2009 DIVISION 1 FINAL

Brian Hogan’s collarbone was broken following a clash with Seamus Callanan. Many felt Jackie Tyrrell’s early shoulder into Callanan’s chest the following September was a reply.

2009 ALL-IRELAND FINAL

Benny Dunne was rightly sent to the line after hitting out at Tommy Walsh as a ball came in their direction. But what provoked the Tipperary sub to act so recklessly? Slow motion replays show his helmet was tampered with before the sliotar arrived. It wasn’t then but is now a sending off offence.

AND AGAIN...

Diarmuid Kirwan’s awarding of a penalty to Kilkenny, when the foul was committed outside the area remains a source of angst for Tipperary supporters. Henry Shefflin goaled and Kilkenny never looked back.

2010 DIV 1 CLASH

Liam Sheedy and Brian Cody squared up to one another on the sideline. Cody pointed a finger at Sheedy and the Tipperary manager pushed his opposite number in the chest. The pair dismissed the seriousness of the clash afterwards.

2012 ALL-IRELAND SEMI-FINAL

Michael Rice was ruled out of the final after suffering a severe broken hand following a wild swing by Padraic Maher. Referees chief Pat McEnaney later intimated it was a sending off offence although Maher remained on the field. In the same game, Lar Corbett suffered a facial injury during the first half when he followed Walsh as Tyrrell shadowed the Tipperary forward.

2013 DIV 1 LEAGUE

Walsh was harshly shown a red card, while Noel McGrath also saw the line for two yellow card offences.

2013 DIVISION 1 FINAL

Sunday’s referee, Barry Kelly, sent off JJ Delaney and Corbett following a row between the pair in Nowlan Park. Corbett, as a result of falling on his hurley during the scrap, fractured ribs. However, because of a technicality the pair didn’t get suspended.

2013 ALL-IRELAND QUALIFIER

After suffering a hamstring tear, Corbett was jeered off the pitch by Kilkenny supporters in Nowlan Park. He had earlier scored a goal.

2014 DIVISION 1 FINAL

Cody entered the Tipperary dugout in Thurles after a remark had reportedly been directed at him. He played the incident down afterwards.
