Déise board set to meet football panel

The board are set to sit down with player representatives Paul Whyte and Shane Briggs on Monday next August 25th to discuss possible options. Chairman Tom Cunningham has also been in contact with Niall Carew but received no indication yet if the Kildare native would be prepared to reconsider his original decision.

Carew’s two-year term concluded after their first round qualifier loss to Carlow on June 28th. He announced his intention to step away from the position last Wednesday and expressed his disappointment with insufficient financial backing and inadequate underage structures in a lengthy statement sent to the county board. The players subsequently voiced their support for Carew’s retention through a statement of their own and requested talks with the board.
