A three-goal blitz midway through the second half propelled Beara to county final glory following this replayed Rebel Óg U14 Premier 1 football final played in Páirc Tadhg na Samhna, Drimoleague last night.
The sides were evenly matched until a converted penalty from ace forward Daragh McElhinney moved his side three points clear in the 43rd minute. Sean and Ryan O’Sullivan quickly added further goals which moved the divisional side nine points clear entering the final quarter.
Éire Óg, who battled valiantly throughout, fought to the finish but were repelled by a well-organised Beara outfit who deservedly clinched victory following an entertaining final.
The two sides played out an engrossing replay which had the large crowd captivated throughout with both sides exhibiting great skills and no little endeavour. Beara, inspired by pacy half forward McElhinney, held a narrow one-point lead at the interval. Éire Óg inspired by Cork U14 midfield star Jack Murphy levelled proceedings by the 39th minute. Beara promptly restored their initiative as they netted three goals in a sensational four minute period which reasserted their superiority on proceedings which ensured they cruised to victory.
There were euphoric scenes following the game when Beara captain Jamie O’Neill was presented with the cup by Jim Forbes.
