In Saturday’s round 1 qualifiers, Cavan defeated Meath in their derby at Pairc Tailteann in Navan.

Cavan’s Claragh O’Reilly scored 0-7 and claimed the player of the match with Geraldine Sheridan adding 1-2, as the Breffni side were 1-15 to 0-13 winners.

Sheridan’s first half goal helped Cavan to lead by 1-6 to 0-7 at half-time and goalkeeper Caron Fay had also saved a Katie O’Brien penalty.

Meath’s Bridgetta Lynch had three points from play by the 14th minute, but the Oldcastle player limped off injured in the second half.

In the preceding game, Tyrone bounced back from their crushing Ulster SFC defeat to Armagh with a 3-17 to 1-13 victor over Kildare.

Captain Gemma Begley led the way with 1-6 for the Red Hands, who led 1-11 to 0-4 at half-time. Cara McCrossan and Alanna McShane also netted for the winners

Elaine Dillon scored an early second half goal for Kildare and while Grace Clifford contributed four points, the Lilywhites were outclassed as Begley, Emma Hegarty, Cathy Donnelly and Neamh Woods led the Tyrone charge.

In Birr, Westmeath ran out 1-13 to 0-10 winners against Clare, with Maud Annie Foley bagging 0-7 for the winners. Ruth Kearney scored the crucial Westmeath goal.

In the curtain raiser at St Brendan’s Park, Tipperary’s intermediate side were 1-14 to 1-11 winners against Wicklow.
