Connacht set for €500,000 final boost

Connacht Council secretary John Prenty predicts Sunday’s football decider between Galway and Mayo will contribute over €500,000 to the provincial coffers.

Prenty expects a crowd of close to 30,000 at Elvery’s MacHale Park, a significant increase on recent Connacht football final attendances.

The 2008 figure of 31,789, where Galway scored a one-point victory over Sunday’s opponents, stands as the largest final attendance in recent times, with only 21,274 passing through the turnstiles for last year’s final meeting of Mayo and London.
