Monaghan unchanged for Armagh test

Ulster champions Monaghan last night confirmed an unchanged line up for tomorrow’s semi-final clash with Armagh.

Monaghan unchanged for Armagh test

Boss Malachy O’Rourke’s backing of the side that overcame Tyrone last time out means All Star forward Conor McManus starts again.

He memorably overcame ankle and knee injuries quicker than expected to take his place in the line up against Tyrone despite not being initially name but is retained at corner-forward.

However, the identity of Armagh’s team is still far from decided. County officials were last night remaining tight lipped about a potential Disputes Resolution Authority hearing ahead of the Clones encounter.

The Orchard County were informed yesterday key trio Brendan Donaghy, Andy Mallon and Kieran Toner remain suspended arising from incidents in the pre-match brawl with Cavan.

Armagh took their case against one-match bans to the Central Appeals Committee having previously enjoyed no satisfaction at a Central Hearings Committee meeting.

A statement confirmed the players gave written submissions, as opposed to actually attending the meeting, and that the ‘CAC rejected the appeals’.

As things stand, All-Ireland medallist Mallon, defensive colleague Donaghy and midfielder Toner are banned from playing in Clones.

Armagh’s last resort is a hearing with the quasi legal DRA. County board officials were unavailable last night to confirm their next move, though sources indicated that as of close of business yesterday, no request for a DRA hearing had been submitted.

Aside from the trio, Armagh forward Caolan Rafferty, a goalscorer against Cavan, is an injury doubt with a hand problem.

Mickey Harte has made four changes to his Tyrone team for their Round 1B qualifier against Louth tomorrow, including a debut for Shay McGuigan.

The half-forward remarkably follows brothers Brian, Tommy and Frank in playing for his county while father, Frank Senior, is a former All Star.

The other changes see Emmet McKenna and Connor McAliskey recalled in attack while PJ Quinn starts at corner-back.

There is good news for Kildare ahead of Sunday’s Leinster football semi-final with Meath.

Darroch Mulhall, their top scorer in the Allianz League, has resumed full training after missing the Louth game. Young defender Mick O’Grady could also be available for selection following a fractured cheekbone though Peter Kelly is out.

Wexford have made one change for their Leinster semi-final clash with holders Dublin. Michael O’Regan replaces Robert Dempsey, a change that has necessitated a reshuffle of the forward six.

Cavan have recalled Joshua Hayes, Robert Maloney-Derham, Mickey Lyng and Michael Argue for their qualifier against Westmeath.

In hurling, Waterford have brought wing-back Darragh Fives and corner-forward Ryan Donnelly into their team for tomorrow’s Round 1 qualifier with Laois. Offaly make five changes for Sunday’s trip to Antrim.
