Galway starlet Walsh out to end Mayo reign
Walsh was drafted in during the first half in a bid to stem Mayo’s flow on a day when the Tribesmen slumped to a 17-point hammering at Pearse Stadium.
The 21-year-old tried to put that nightmare debut behind him, and a player who has followed the same career path through St Jarlath’s College in Tuam as Padraic Joyce and Michael Donnellan, is lighting up the championship with a 1-12 haul from two games.
“I came on in the first half last year. It wasn’t a day to remember, but I said, ‘Look, this is my first in the Galway jersey and I’ll remember it’.
“But I’ll remember it even more if we can beat Mayo in the Connacht final,” added Walsh.
“That’s what you are dreaming of, coming in playing with the Galway senior team.
“This is my first Connacht final and hopefully we can beat Mayo and displace them as champions.
“They have set the standard up there. They are there to be beaten.
“That’s what we are trying to do, every other teamin Connacht is trying toget up to them and hopefully we can match them on July 13.”
