Connacht final going to Mayo or Galway

Whoever wins today’s Connacht semi-final will be on the road for the final.

Mayo and Galway have a home and away agreement for Connacht SFC matches. Pearse Park in Salthill played host to last year’s where Mayo routed the home side 4-16 to 0-11.

That means, should Galway win, Elverys MacHale Park will be the venue for the Connacht final for the second successive year where the home side will be hoping to win four provincial titles on the bounce for the first time since the 1948-51 run.

However, should Sligo win in Markievicz Park, they will force Mayo down the road to Galway for the final as the Yeats county do not have a home and away agreement.

As neither Hyde Park in Roscommon or Carrick-on-Shannon would be capable of hosting a Connacht final due to health and safety restrictions, Salthill remains the only viable option.

Connacht Council officials will quietly be hoping for a Galway victory given the capacity of MacHale Park stands at 42,000, while Pearse Park is just 26,000. The Connacht Council, unlike its three neighbours, can only draw revenue from four provincial games every year.
