Time for a qualifier rethink

The qualifiers. If ever there was an Irish solution to an Irish problem then the GAA’s decision to build a ‘back door’ on to the stately piles that are the hurling and football championships was surely it.

The 14th season dawns for the qualifiers tomorrow with four less-than-stellar games taking place in the big ball code and with association president Liam O’Neill suggesting this week that it may be time for a rethink.

The time for change is, in fact, long overdue. Here’s why.
