Shanahan: We couldn’t match Cork’s workrate

Waterford selector Dan Shanahan has admitted they simply couldn’t cope with Cork’s ferocious appetite as they were on the receiving end of a 14-point hiding on Sunday.

Shanahan: We couldn’t match Cork’s workrate

“I think Cork worked harder than we did, as simple as that. The first day, we got the better of Cork in terms of work rate,” he said.

“On the second day, they beat us. We had no answer to that. They were really up for the game. You have to credit Cork. There is never that much between us but Cork took their chances. Anything they hit went over the bar and anything we hit went wide. It’s something that we have to go back to the drawing board on and get into the qualifiers and we will still be there or thereabouts.”
