Dublin have won eight of the last nine Leinster SFC titles and are an unbackable 1/7 to make that nine out of 10, but Jim Gavin believes existing provincial structures should not be dismantled in a bid to improve Gaelic football.

The Football Review Committee (FRC) released the second part of its report on the code last December and one of the key recommendations was for the adoption of a championship structure bearing four teams of eight each.

Doing so would require redirecting some counties into neighbouring provinces and, though Gavin echoes the FRC’s imperative to improve scheduling at club and county levels, he is clearly uneasy about tampering with age-old structures.
