Crowley: Double-header with hurlers never likely

Tipperary football board secretary JJ Crowley says a double-header involving the county’s hurling and football teams this weekend was never on the cards as the Premier’s big ball exponents "don’t normally get into Thurles that easily".

The football board has struggled in the past to schedule games at Semple, according to Crowley, and so no approaches were made to fix a Limerick-Tipperary double-header on Sunday.

The football secretary noted the Munster junior football and intermediate hurling semi-finals, fixed as curtain raisers to the two senior clashes, effectively ruled out a double-header, remarking, however, “I couldn’t see the footballers being allowed into Semple Stadium”.
