Clare manager Davy Fitzgerald thinks his side are still off championship pace but the lessons learned from this challenge match at Cusack Park, Ennis, on Saturday night will stand them in good stead.
A brilliant goal by Clare’s Colin Ryan in the 65th minute proved to be the winning score from this senior hurling challenge game.
“It was a great workout and though not championship fare, it was not a hundred miles off it, either,” said Fitzgerald.
“We tried a few different things tonight. Did we learn a few things tonight? We did. Darach [Honan] showed good form, showed a bit of go in him. For the championship though, we are still not ready.
“I’m not happy with the pace we are at but we have three weeks and hopefully we’ll make up the ground in the next few weeks.”
Dublin team-boss Anthony Daly agreed that the game proved to be a good preparation.
“We were missing a few tonight. We had none of the U21s because they have a game on Wednesday and they [Clare] were missing a few as well. so I wouldn’t read too much into it. But it was a good workout,” said the former Clare team-captain.
Clare led by 2-13 to 2-8 at the break. Colm Galvin and Darach Honan grabbed the Banner’s goals, while Dotsie O’Callaghan and Conal Keaney were the Dublin goal scorers.
