Waterford taking O’Sullivan case to DRA
O’Sullivan was red-carded in the NHL clash against Dublin but Déise boss Derek McGrath said last night: “Shane is going to the DRA next week, we don’t have a date yet but we’d be hoping that they’ll look at that incident very closely and maybe review it.
“We’d feel in that case — and in another incident involving Michael ‘Brick’ Walsh — that there’d be a case to be made for having a lesser punishment than a red card.
“Is it harsh that the card is carrying over from the league to the championship? It is because it’s us — the reality is that if it were somebody else we’d be saying it’s the right thing!
“To be sent off in the last league game was always going to have ramifications for the championship, a rule is a rule, but we haven’t lost hope. You never know.”
Waterford have serious injury concerns ahead of the Cork game.
“Philip Mahony is a long-term injury concern, as are Stephen Daniels and Martin O’Neill. Darragh Fives probably won’t be involved on Sunday week, Stephen Molumphy — we just don’t know.
“Maurice Shanahan has a torn muscle in his back and his back is going into spasm, so he hasn’t been involved. Jamie Barron is almost definitely out, but we feel Jake (Dillon) will make it. He should play some part — we got 15 minutes into him over the last couple of outings so while he might not start, he should play some part.”
