Corbett’s return huge lift for Tipp, says Maher

Tipperary hurling captain Brendan Maher has welcomed Lar Corbett’s return to club action in the Premier County, saying Corbett’s "presence" has given the entire panel a lift.

Corbett, the 2010 Hurler of the Year, has been struggling for much of the 2014 season with a knee injury, but he appeared for Thurles Sarsfields last weekend and may yet figure in Tipp’s championship opener against Limerick.

“It’s great to have him back,” said Maher yesterday.

“It’s a great buzz having Lar in the dressing room, he was back training the week before the league final and he’s such a presence around the place even in the dressing room

“Having him out on the field, interacting with fellas in drills and so forth . . . That gives the whole group a lift. “Not only is Lar back, you have Gearóid Ryan back, who’s been getting game time and young Michael Green is also back hurling full time. The competition is good, so only the best 15 over the next few weeks will get the jersey.

“Lar’s had great performances in the Tipperary jersey and he’ll have himself in tip top condition for June 1.”
