What we learned from League

It’s easy now to say the excitement of the last match or two was enjoyable for the spectators, but there just aren’t enough games all round. Take the lengthy breaks being endured by the likes of Waterford and Cork ahead of their Munster SHC outings, at a time of the year when the weather’s a bit better and the ground a bit harder and everyone could do with a game or two of consequence to go to.

2. There doesn’t seem right now to be a necessity for the black card to be introduced into hurling. The blossoming of scorelines and freedom in Gaelic football is welcome, but despite some wearying nonsense being spewed out of Kilkenny, of all places, the level of physicality and sanction looks well calibrated to this observer. We’ll hang onto those cards, thanks very much, but just the two.
