GAA Hurling Hall of Fame inductee Noel Skehan has pleaded with president Liam O’Neill to bring forward a Central Council motion to clear up the 20 metre frees and penalties anomaly in time for this year’s championship.

The former Kilkenny goalkeeper, winner of a record nine All-Ireland medals, fears it is only a case of when not if a player picks up a serious injury from a strike hit after the 20 metre line.

In recent games, Anthony Nash, TJ Reid, Conor Cooney and Seamus Callanan have all converted close-range frees or penalties having take a liberal number of steps in the process.
