Mayo joy as Elverys to remain as sponsor

Mayo GAA have welcomed news that they will not be sponsored by a company owned by Newcastle United’s owner Mike Ashley.

Elverys will stay Irish following a successful management buy-out headed up by the company’s managing director who held off stiff competition from Ashley’s Sports Direct.

“This is tremendous news for all staff involved and will help to ensure that the 650 jobs at the 55 Elverys outlets across the country would be secure,” said Mayo PRO Aiden McLoughlin.

“We would also like to acknowledge the work of the SOSElverys700 team led by the staff who made the public aware of the danger they faced in relation to their jobs.

“Mayo GAA have a long standing relationship and connection with Elverys and we are very proud to have a company of the magnitude of Elverys as our main sponsor and look forward to continuing that relationship. Elverys will continue to be displayed on the jerseys of all our teams and no doubt will see many appearances in Croke Park in the latter stages of the year.”
