Outside perception of Waterford IT as virtual no-hopers ahead of the Fitzgibbon Cup weekend drove Colm Bonnar’s men to a first title success since 2008, according to corner-forward, Harry Kehoe.

WIT were underdogs in both their semi-final and final encounters, but came up trumps each time and Kehoe, the contributor of 2-4 over the weekend, savoured the success.

“That drove us on a little bit that no one gave us a chance,” he said. “We were 9/1 coming into this weekend, in the final we were still the outsiders despite our semi-final win. Before the final, we wondered why anyone didn’t rate us? We have county players all over the pitch. It is a nice feeling to have proven everybody wrong.
