Rodgers brace sees Derry shock 12-man Westmeath
Westmeath’s problems began when Derry’s Patrick McCloskey goaled after just three minutes. Then Niall O’Brien was dismissed for a straight red card offence in the 20th minute and just a minute later a long delivery by Derry’s Brendan Rodgers ended up in the Westmeath net.
Derry led 2-8 to 0-4 at half-time but there was no comeback by the home side and a second Rodgers goal in the 64th minute sealed Derry’s win.
Westmeath also had Liam Varley and Aaron Craig sent off in the final seven minutes.
