Freeman penalty rescues draw for Mayo

Mayo started well and led by 1-8 to 0-2 after 21 minutes but did not score for the next 36 minutes until Freeman’s penalty. Cathal Carolan got Mayo’s first goal but by half-time IT Sligo were well back in it, trailing only by 1-8 to 1-4, Niall Walsh getting their goal.
Sligo then hit seven points without reply to lead by three points. Sligo’s Mayo man Evan Regan kicking eight points over the hour, and the two McHughs from Donegal impressed. But Mayo snatched a draw when Freeman converted after Darren Coen was fouled.
