Ryan to make decision on 2014 next week

Cork Ladies Football manager Eamonn Ryan is undecided on his future as Rebel boss.

The 72-year old guided Cork to an eighth All-Ireland crown in September, but was non-committal on whether he would remain at the helm for a 10th year.

Ryan, along with his backroom team of Justin McCarthy, Frank Honahan, James O’Callaghan and Bridget O’Brien, are to meet next week to discuss the matter and a decision is expected prior to the Cork Ladies Football Convention on Wednesday, January 8.

“We haven’t decided yet,” Ryan told the Irish Examiner.

“It will be next week before we come to a decision. The convention is on January 8. We will meet and make a decision in the next seven or eight days.”

Reflecting on yet another memorable campaign, Ryan claimed the road travelled this past year represented one of the toughest since the maiden win of 2005.

“We lost to Kerry twice in the Munster championship and that dented somewhat the confidence of the players.

“We struggled past Armagh, a team two divisions lower than us, and then we struggled past Dublin.

“We made a lot of mistakes in the final, there was a lot of bad decision making particularly in the shooting department. The players to their credit just got on with it.

“In the end, we got two or three good points. We had a bit of luck in the end when Cathríona McConnell missed the free. I think we made our own luck though.”
