A Westmeath hurling supporter has been banned for 48 weeks for clashing with a referee after the county senior hurling final.

The St Oliver Plunkett’s fan has accepted the suspension which arose from an incident after their four-point lost to Castletown-Geoghegan in October. Moments after the final whistle, the offender grappled with Feichin Brennan as he left the field before he was pulled away by officials.

St Oliver Plunkett’s secretary Michael Coyle revealed the man was accompanied by a second individual wishing to challenge the referee, but he was prevented from gaining access to the tunnel.
