A number of his football team-mates this year, like Ciarán Sheehan and Aidan Walsh, would all-but-certainly be welcomed with open arms into Jimmy Barry-Murphy’s hurling panel.

“I haven’t spoken to the likes of Ciarán or Aidan but it’s natural enough for them as very talented hurlers while they are young to give it one crack, even for one year,” he said.
