The Cork star hit 1-11 before being withdrawn after 46 minutes as a precaution ahead of Sunday’s SHC final with neighbours Sarsfields.
At that stage, the game was all but over, with Stephen Moore’s goal firing Midleton to a 2-16 to 1-7 lead.
Moore’s strike followed a sublime crossfield pass from the magnificent Cormac Walsh on his return from a broken collarbone.
The early stages were tight with Erin’s Own, chasing a first title since 2005, proving more than a match for Midleton and trailing by just a point after 12 minutes following efforts from Cian O’Callaghan and wing-back Kevin Fenton.
Playing with the wind, Midleton used Lehane as often as possible and the ploy worked to perfection. He hit a stunning goal on 26 minutes when he raced onto a long clearance and crashed home from 20-metres and moments later point from a superb sideline cut. But Erin’s Own, with Stephen Horgan doing well in attack and Niall Scanlon battling hard to contain Lehane, were rewarded when the former bundled the ball over the line after Cian O’Callaghan’s initial shot was blocked.
Turning to play with the wind, Erin’s Own had cause to fancy their chances as they trailed by two points (1-7 to 1-5). But instead, Midleton’s attack cut loose, landing seven points in a devastating third quarter through Lehane (4), Walsh (2) while Stephen Moore also got in on the act. And when the same player goaled soon after, the game fizzled out.
Midleton now advance to a county semi-final with Mallow on Saturday week.
