Central to victory was playmaker DD Dorgan, who hit ten points to drive his side to a last four meeting against Rockchapel.
Fresh from their junior hurling exploits that involved four divisional and county games earlier in the month, those excursions failed to unsettle a delighted Dorgan and his colleagues on the bigger ball.
“Considering we had just two football training sessions, everything went well. The boys get the frees and I get to kick them over, that’s the easy part”, said a modest Dorgan.
“Its back to hurling now, we’ve got the rub of the green to date but, hopefully, the winning vein will continue in the JAHC final.”
Grenagh dominated from the off, midfielders Jerry Russell and Tom Kenny coupled with a supporting half-back line established the platform for constructive work for Dorgan to deliver a pair of delightful points from play.
Ballydesmond were strangely lethargic, struggling in most departments, although back-to-back points by Donncha O’Connor and Paudie Breen offered encouragement.
Still, Grenagh remained sharper, driving forward in waves, with Liam Walsh pointing and the reliable Dorgan firing over four frees on the trot.
Ballydesmond attempted to stem the tide and it took a fine save from Grenagh custodian Martin Barry to deny Brendan Fleming.
Trailing 0-9 to 0-4 at the break, Ballydesmond restarted with a forceful blast, primary due to the input of Donal Kelly, Jerry Healy and Bertie O’Callaghan. That allowed good possession into attack for Breen, Niall Fleming and O’Connor point to cut the leeway, 0-11 to 0-8, at the three quarter stage. But when leadership was required, it was old hand Dorgan who emerged the game’s standout figure.
