Cloonan in line for Galway backroom role
Cunningham lost coach Mattie Kenny following a disappointing championship campaign and has turned to Cloonan as a replacement.
The former All Star recipient, who won three All-Ireland club titles with Athenry, was enlisted by clubmate and Westmeath manager Brian Hanley as the Lake County’s forwards coach this summer. GMIT’s Sports Development Officer Damien Curley, who has worked extensively with the county’s U14 and U16 teams in the past, is also believed to have been approached by Cunningham.
County chairperson Noel Treacy said the make-up of themanager’s backroom team for next season has not yet been relayed to the board.
“Anthony will name his entire panel at the County Board meeting on Monday, November 4 and they will be put forward for ratification before thedelegates,” he continued.
“I think there are around six names flying about as possible selectors,” he added.
