Cloonan in line for Galway backroom role

Former Galway hurler Eugene Cloonan is expected to be part of the backroom team unveiled by Anthony Cunningham at next month’s county board meeting.

Cloonan in line for Galway backroom role

Cunningham lost coach Mattie Kenny following a disappointing championship campaign and has turned to Cloonan as a replacement.

The former All Star recipient, who won three All-Ireland club titles with Athenry, was enlisted by clubmate and Westmeath manager Brian Hanley as the Lake County’s forwards coach this summer. GMIT’s Sports Development Officer Damien Curley, who has worked extensively with the county’s U14 and U16 teams in the past, is also believed to have been approached by Cunningham.
