Clonoe send Errigal Ciarán crashing

Classy Clonoe O’Rahilly’s despatched champions Errigal Ciarán with a thumping semi-final win at Dungannon yesterday.

Paul Coney’s first-half goal set the O’Rahilly’s up for a 1-16 to 1-10 win and a clash with Carrickmore next weekend.

Clonoe led 1-6 to 0-6 at the interval, and stretched the lead with a second score from defender Quinn.

McAliskey and Coney were also on target, while wing back PJ Lavery chipped in with a couple of quality points as the O’Rahilly’s opened up a nine points lead.

Peter Harte’s late goal was not enough to rescue the O’Neill Cup holders, and both sides finished with 14 men after second bookings for Errigal defender Michael McCrory and Clonoe attacker Colm Doris.

Carrickmore qualified for their first final since 2010 with a 3-9 to 0-9 win over Moy at Plunkett Park.

Moy pushed into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead with scores from half-back pair Eunan Deeney and Jack Kelly. But in stoppage time, Martin Penrose struck for a goal to give Carrickmore a 1-5 to 0-4 interval lead.

Sean Cavanagh led Moy’s spirited comeback with five points from play and frees and with 10 minutes to play, just a point separated the sides. But Moy’s hopes suffered another setback when Mark Donnelly collected Barry Daly’s return pass to slot home a 50th minute goal.

And an experienced Carrickmore side closed the game out, Penrose bringing his tally to 1-4, before Paul McAleer had a third goal in stoppage time.
