Crosserlough continue fairytale run to final

Surprise packets Crosserlough are into the Cavan SFC semi-finals following a 0-10 to 0-7 victory over 2009 IFC winners Lavey at Virginia on Saturday.

Crosserlough continue fairytale run to final

The unheralded Kilnaleck-based side play in the intermediate league but their odds on winning the title have shortened considerably on the back of a three match winning run.

Lavey were their own worst enemies, shooting 13 wides over the hour while conceding far too many frees to an in-form Barry McKiernan.

McKiernan opened the scoring from play and went onto convert five frees as his side cantered to a 0-8 to 0-2 interval lead.

Christopher Conroy made it a five point game just 90 seconds into the second half. Four unanswered frees between the 41st and 57th minutes put pressure on Crosserlough left just two points, 0-7 to 0-9, between the sides.

However, Lavey’s failure to score from play and the dismissal of former county star Raymond Cullivan signalled an ignominious exit for them.

Elsewhere, Lacken Celtic booked their place in the last four following a hard-earned 3-10 to 0-15 victory in their quarter-final replay against underdogs Killlygarry at Ballinagh while Castlerahan edged out Ramor United side, 1-10 to 0-9.
