Diffley edges Slashers home

It will be a repeat of the 2010 Longford SFC final on October 6 when Longford Slashers take on Dromard.

Last year’s beaten finalists, Slashers had a narrow one-point win over Colmcille in their semi-final replay; 0-10 to 1-6. Slashers scored four points at the start but Colmcille hit back in the 16th minute with a goal from Paul McKeon and a JP Reilly point and they went in level at the break.

Colmcille dominated early in the second half but couldn’t get vital scores. Noel Farrell drew the game level for the sixth time in the 52nd minute but Marc Diffley edged Slashers ahead two minutes from time.

McKeon had a chance to bring the game to extra-time deep in stoppage time but couldn’t find the target.

Cian Mimnagh starred with 1-4 for Dromard as they defeated Abbeylara 2-11 to 1-8. Level at half-time, his superb goal came 12 minutes after the break to put Dromard ahead by four and they were able to build on that.

Abbeylara cut the gap to just one in the 41st minute thanks to a Brian Smith goal and a Robbie Smyth point but Mimnagh’s goal put Dromard firmly in control.
