St Anne’s and Castletown out

It was a weekend of shocks in the Wexford SFC quarter-finals, with champions St. Anne’s (Rathangan) bowing out along with last year’s beaten finalists Castletown.

St Anne’s and Castletown out

Shelmaliers led the champions 1-5 to 0-0 after just 10 minutes, the goal coming inside 30 seconds from corner-forward Derek Walsh. St. Anne’s, through Red Barry, Sean Gaule, Francis Simpson and Pierce White, reduced the deficit, but trailed 1-5 to 0-6 at the interval.

However, a 33rd minute goal from Eoghan Nolan left the champions with a mountain to climb and they bowed out 2-12 to 1-11. Eight points from county player Ciaran Lyng helped St. Martin’s to a 0-15 to 0-11 win over Adamstown.
