Kerry ponder Griffin gamble after Young blow

Kerry may throw rookie defender Mark Griffin in at the deep end for Sunday’s All-Ireland semi-final against Dublin after the Kingdom lost Killian Young for the season on Saturday to a serious ankle injury.

Young collapsed in agony jostling for a kick-out with Kieran O’Leary in the first half of a behind closed doors game at Fota Island resort in Cork and was removed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.

The obvious replacement for the Renard man against Dublin would be Kerry captain Eoin Brosnan, but Kerry could rework their defensive match-ups to include Griffin. The young St Michael’s Foilmore defender has impressed when given the chance this season.
