TV3 unable to go the extra at Semple Stadium

Strict broadcasting rights meant TV3 were unable to show extra-time in the Clare-Wexford game in Thurles on Saturday.

TV3 were put in the awkward position of previewing the Kilkenny-Waterford game on the endline as the additional period of the curtain-raiser was being played out in the background.

At one stage, an errant sliotar crossed the feet of Matt Cooper and analysts Nicky English and Daithi Regan as they carried on regardless.

But as the game wasn’t part of their package they were unable to televise any of it.

In the past, both TV3 and RTÉ have shown extra-time of Championship games that cut into their schedule but the practice is now frowned upon, in a year when the media rights are up for tender.

TV3’s evening programming was also put out of kilter with the late Kilkenny-Waterford throw-in followed by another bout of extra-time.
